Photo Ops summary
I found this particularly useful because it made me think of using depth as one of my main characteristics for my work. “Framing” is one of the points made by the essay that really aided me in conceptualizing a vision for the photo.
Photography Summary
In this essay Steve talks about the conventions of Photography and it’s uses. Mainly stating that Photography has been misconceived. There is a line you draw between art and documentary and spends a good amount of the essay explaining the differences.
Alot of history is injected into a very analytic view at Photography and it’s past and mentions artists and documenters in the past. He clearly defines the intentions and styles that were in used in photography in the past.
I found this useful when I started thinking about the what I really wanted my photo of my word to be. Should the photo be realistic? should it look like a document? What kind of effect am I trying to achieve. It helped me question my own use of the composition to convey the message to the viewer.
