Photo Ops summary

This essay mainly talked about effects and concepts you can achieve with the composition of your photograph. Little kinks and features you can put into your photograph to really amplify the effect you’re looking for.

I found this particularly useful because it made me think of using depth as one of my main characteristics for my work. “Framing” is one of the points made by the essay that really aided me in conceptualizing a vision for the photo.

Photography Summary

In this essay Steve talks about the conventions of Photography and it’s uses. Mainly stating that Photography has been misconceived. There is a line you draw between art and documentary and spends a good amount of the essay explaining the differences.

Alot of history is injected into a very analytic view at Photography and it’s past and mentions artists and documenters in the past. He clearly defines the intentions and styles that were in used in photography in the past.

I found this useful when I started thinking about the what I really wanted my photo of my word to be. Should the photo be realistic? should it look like a document? What kind of effect am I trying to achieve. It helped me question my own use of the composition to convey the message to the viewer.

Accordion Books and our Options.

I think right now, the most important thing is picking the right accordion book. I personally like more of a minimalistic style, but I think the group's preference will be much more frilly.

Monday.

We had an extra session of construction today. We started doing the Es. I'm starting to get a little worried about how everything will hold together. I've been thinking about using duck tape as our adhesive, but I'm starting to rethink that.

I'm not sure If I should go with super glue, or something of the tape variety. Something definitely worth pondering before tomorrow.

Handing in project, starting new one.

After an exhausting sleepless night, I finally managed to get my poster submitted on time. It was much of a hassle though, considering I was worried I wouldn't be able to use the plotter given the amount of students that may have wanted to print that morning too.

Today's focus, from my perspective, constitutes critiquing. I actually learned something extremely important today - the precense of a color scheme. I decided that I wanted to go with bright and light colors for my poster. However, there was really no solid color scheme. I felt that that made my poster lack a little je ne sais quoi that it needed to be over the edge. I was quite disappointed in myself for not handing in my absolute best work.

We learned about pathfinder today, and got our assigned word - ours, being the word "extend". Typography isn't really my thing, but i feel that this may be a successful project.
